For sixteen years, the Tribal Trust Foundation has walked alongside the Monpa people of Central Bhutan — not as distant benefactors, but as genuine partners in one of the most meaningful cultural preservation relationships in our 30-year history.
This past February, we received a letter of gratitude from a partner in Bhutan, Karma Lotey, pictured above, President of Yangphel Adventure Travel, that moved us deeply. We want to share it with you in full, because it speaks to something we rarely say about ourselves — and because you, our donor community, made it possible. Some of his words are deeply meaningful and affirming:
“For more than a decade, Tribal Trust has stood beside the Monpa people with unwavering dedication — not merely as a benefactor, but as a true partner in preserving and strengthening an ancient indigenous culture.”
“Through generous support for education, the organization has opened pathways for young Monpa students to access learning opportunities while remaining rooted in their identity and heritage. This investment in education is not only an investment in individuals, but in the continuity of a fragile and irreplaceable way of life.”
“It is rare to encounter philanthropy that is guided so clearly by empathy and long-term commitment rather than short-term visibility.”
“Tribal Trust has played a meaningful role in ensuring that traditions are not lost to time, but instead strengthened and celebrated with pride.”

We could not be more grateful for the longstanding relationship and collaboration.
If you join us on one of our trips to Bhutan, you will get to meet Karma and experience his care and hospitality firsthand. Our November trip is already full but there are a few spots left for our September 2026 trip to Bhutan. Learn more or reserve your spot.
