The time of storytelling for the sake of voyeurism is long past. The new model is initiated by indigenous communities, happens in collaboration with local filmmakers, and initiates audiences into new ways of being. Having built trust with the Monpa people over many years, The Tribal Trust Foundation is able to share a close-up living portrait of one 15-year old indigenous girl, Sonam Yangki. Our film invites viewers to emotionally connect with her and to care about her future and that of her indigenous community. Ultimately, one develops an understanding that these wisdom keepers hold a precious key for all of humanity, a deep reverence for the web of life and an intimate connection with nature. The growing social, environmental, and economic challenges in our global community are now critical and there is a new urgency to tell the necessary stories. Our intent with Healers of The Black Forest is for people to leave the screening questioning their current beliefs and our modern ways of living. The call to action is to donate to an educational fund for the Monpa children so that they can have the same opportunity as Sonam in choosing to receive a higher education.
