“Humankind has not woven the web of life.
We are but one thread within it.
Whatever we do to the web we do to ourselves.

All things are bound together.
All things connect.”
– Chief Seattle

This month we celebrate Earth Day. What will you do in honor of Mother Earth? We must act now to live more sustainably. Climate change is impacting everyone around the world, including Indigenous communities who have made the least negative impact on their land. Indigenous peoples offer models for the rest of the world on the best ways to live sustainably and adapt to environmental changes. By implementing successful Indigenous techniques developed over decades, we can deal more effectively with global warming, soil degeneration, and comprised water resources among our strife-ridden communities.

In honor of Earth Day, please consider supporting TTF by participating in an exclusive donor trip to Bhutan for a deeply spiritual experience and adventure of a lifetime. TTF donor trips are designed to provide financial support to selected indigenous peoples. Join us in Beyul–a Buddhist term for a land between heaven and to visit (by invitation only) the pristine Black Forest, where you will be deeply touched by the Indigenous Monpas’ generosity of spirit and willingness to share their knowledge with us.  This year, we are offering two trips to Bhutan: a five-star trip in November led by me with Karma Lotey, the CEO of Yangphel Travel, another similar trip in December at a lower cost with Dr. Dawn Murray, TTF’s Director of International Education and Outreach.

As a gift this Earth Day, we invite you to review the inspiring words of Carla Riedel, a Curandera/Medicine Woman, who is featured in this month’s Wisdom Weavings.

With gratitude for your support and interest,
Barbara

THE SECRET OF STONESBefore rocks took the brilliance
of stars out of darknessBefore snakes knew nowhere else to live
and made their journey from water
to enter homes of small animalsBefore our eyes could see the limits of things
our arms embraced the fury of wind and we heard
our names break out of the dome of the universeIt was then we saw the double wings
of dragonflies glisten toward sunlightIt was then we let our hands slip through
the moon and sun of each other
and time escaped its hours

What we begin to know when our bodies touch
is older than everything and floats
untethered to the waiting sky
