In this month of May, where in America we celebrate Mother’s Day, honoring the nurturing presence of mothers in our lives, I want to give thanks for Mother Nature and Mother Earth, and the web of life of which we are a part. At Tribal Trust Foundation, we believe that the wisdom of Indigenous peoples, the regenerative principles of Nature, and the celebration of Mother’s Day intertwine in a powerful and meaningful way.
Indigenous cultures worldwide have long understood our connection to nature and as part of nature. By learning from their wisdom, we can continue our mission of promoting harmony with nature and each other, remembering everything is connected, and that every action has a ripple effect on our world. In the spirit of Mother’s Day, let our actions demonstrate that we are stewards of the Earth, caring for her as she cares for us.
DOCUMENTING & SHARING WISDOM
From Namibia to Peru to Bhutan, we are collaborating with local communities to grow schools rooted in Two-Eyed Seeing (Etuaptmumk in Mi’kmaw), an approach to learning and science that braids traditional Indigenous knowledge with contemporary education. We’re also developing documentaries to share these stories with the world.
SHARE YOUR AIRLINE MILES to help us cover cost of hiring Indigenous filmmakers we have worked with before and who we know have the professional and cultural fluency to show up with us in a good way. To donate air miles, contact me today.
GRATITUDE & PRAYERS from IRELAND
Sending best wishes from Northern Ireland. Like all Tribal Trust Foundation trips, this is a land-based healing journey. It includes daily hikes on spectacular trails that hold traces of the ancient Irish tribe that thrived there before the Middle Ages. As we bear witness to the impact of colonialism, particularly in Belfast — the source of “The Troubles” that still impact us today — the ancestor spirits are kept alive in folklore and music. Together we build allyship with Nature of the land and the wisdom held in Celtic consciousness.
The Tribal Trust Foundation is located in the unceded homelands of the Chumash People and the Seminole Tribe of Florida. By recognizing these communities, we attempt to honor their legacies, their lives, and descendants.
