Responsiveness in Support for Hadza People

In times of great change, it is wise to go back to what we know has worked throughout millennia: the ways of Indigenous people, who have built cultures and traditions anchored in ancient wisdom that is perhaps more relevant today than ever before. Indigenous communities are also most vulnerable to the life-threatening effects of climate change and the extractive practices of today’s dominant culture, including unsustainable development.

SACRED ACTIVISM

Last year on a Tribal Trust Foundation safari, our group of travelers established a relationship with members of the Hadzabe, the last Indigenous hunter-gatherers in Tanzania. When we asked how we could help them, they unanimously requested a clean-water source. The Tribal Trust has been working ever since with Olanakwe Community Fund to provide them with funding for a water source.

Unfortunately, as our partner organization was securing permits last week, we learned that the Hadza peoples are being displaced and have been given just fourteen days to vacate their ancestral lands. We are hopeful this claim will be found illegal and the courts will do the right thing so the Hadza can return to their land where they have lived nomadically for generations.

Amid these challenges the Hadza are facing, we have determined together that the best way to support them at this time is with education that empowers the children to both maintain their ancient wisdom traditions and be equipped to stand strong in the modern world. We are honored to provide resources toward education. Also, when the time is right, we will continue with plans for the well and a school.

Please consider making a donation today to support the Hadza.
