Becoming Sangoma, an African Spiritual Journey

May 4, 2019 @ 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm PDT

There are many paths to personal spiritual practice. Being ‘Chosen by the Bones’ is the way of the African sangoma. Frederich became sangoma in early 2003 through the rigorous process of thwaasa, a 3-month-long indigenous immersion experience which took place in Botswana, Africa, at the remote edge of the Kalahari Desert. She was allowed by her initiators to photographically record this unique spiritual journey – and is now able to share it with others.

On the evening of May 4, 2019, ‘Freddie’ will offer a narrated slideshow of her thwaasa followed by open discussion regarding what it is to undergo an indigenous initiation – and thus earn the right to offer the intriguing divination process called ‘Throwing the Bones’.

Freddie’s Bone Throw sessions and her approach to addressing personal spiritual crises for her clients are based on her own African field experiences and training which reflect the healing traditions of Tswana, Zulu, Venda and Shangaan cultures. She has given a lifetime of study to successfully addressing the wide range of personal spiritual challenges and experiential anomalies that can occur for those who live in modern western cultures.
